Malcolm Scott Quaich

Presented by Mary M. Scott
Spring 1992

Competition Rules

The Malcolm Scott Quaich is presented to Donside Camera Club in remembrance of founder member and Honorary Life President, Malcolm Scott (1920-1991) in the hope that it will give many years of enjoyable photographic competition. The suggested conditions for competition follow:

1. The competition should be run over the course of each year.

2. The competition should be open to slides which have not been entered for another Donside Camera Club competition in that year or in previous years. Each member shall be eligible to enter one slide taken by himself/herself.

3. The slides entered for the competition shall be, in the judgement of the members who enter them, in some way illustrative of, an interpretation of, or connected with, the annual theme of the competition.

4. The winner of the competition will be that slide which has gained most points in the judgement of the membership of Donside Camera Club or its appointed judges. The actual details of the judging of the competition shall be subject to the discretion of the Committee of the Donside Camera Club.

5. The winner of the Quaich shall keep the trophy for the duration of the year following the year in which he or she was the winner of the competition.

6. It is hoped that the committee will each year inscribe the trophy with the date, the theme, and the name of each winner.

7. The winner of the trophy will set the theme for the following year but will not be eligible to compete. As a general guidance in the selection of theme, it is suggested that this be a fairly broad concept. Thus, "The Scottish Character" would be seen to be more desirable than "Tractors".

8. The theme fo the competition culminating in 1992 will be "Nature" (set by Mrs M Scott).

9. If the Donside Camera Club, or its successors, should wish to change the terms of the competition, it is hoped that, if possible, this should be done in consultation with Mrs Mary Scott of Montgarrie, Alford.

Wih best wishes for enjoyable and sociable competition.

Montgarrie, 1992

Footnote:

Since the inception of this competition it has traditionally been the task of the winner to judge the following year's competition as well as set the theme. Judging criteria has also been left for the individual to decide. The first competition was judged on the basis of maximum 50% of total possible mark for interpretation of theme with remaining 50% of possible mark for technique, exposure, etc.
