Portrait Trophy Competition Rules
THE DONSIDE PORTRAIT TROPHY
THE COMPETITION
1. There will be an annual Portrait Photography Competition known as ‘The Donside Portrait Trophy’, sponsored by Moray C. Grant.
2. The annual Winner of the Competition and Trophy will be announced at the final meeting before Christmas of Donside Camera Club, with the deadline for entries being the first meeting of the Club in that month, or two weeks before, whichever is the later.
ELLIGIBILITY OF ENTRIES
3. Entries to the Competition must conform to the following requirements.
4. A maximum of three entries per member is allowed.
5. There must be entries from at least two Club members for the Competition to occur that year.
6. Only photographs taken within five years prior to the date of the Competition will be eligible for consideration.
7. The previous Winner of the Trophy, as Judge for the following Competition, will not be eligible to enter in that particular year.
8. Any particular photograph may only be entered into the Portrait Competition on one occasion.
9. Prior entry to other Club competitions will not render submissions ineligible for entry to the Portrait Competition.
10. A submission must include one or more people, or parts thereof, who must comprise the predominant theme of the photograph (thus, for example, distant figures in a landscape would not be regarded as constituting a ‘portrait’).
11. How well any particular submission satisfies the definition of a ‘portrait’ will be at the sole discretion of the Judge.
FORMAT OF ENTRIES
12. No distinction will be made between format of entries, which may be made in print or slide, monochrome or colour.
13. Entries must have originated within a camera, but no distinction will be made between digital and film origination.
14. Print entries may be cropped and/or enlarged and slide entries may be masked.
15. Entries in print format must be mounted and of a size not less than 9 inches by 6 inches.
SUBMISSION
16. Entries must be submitted to the Club’s Competition Secretary by or on the first meeting of the Club each December.
17. The Competition Secretary will record the names of the entrants and the titles of their submissions and then pass them on as anonymous submissions to the current Judge.
18. If the Competition Secretary is the current Judge, then the entries will be collected by another member chosen by the Club.
EXHIBITION AND JUDGING
19. The Winner of the Competition and Trophy will be judged in the first instance by Moray C. Grant.
20. The Winner of each Competition will serve as the subsequent Competition’s Judge.
21. The entries will be exhibited to the Club at its final annual meeting before Christmas, with commentary and marks given by the Judge, and the Winner announced.
22. Each submission to the Competition will be awarded a mark out of 20, with consideration being given to the four main elements of composition, exposure, lighting and timing.
23. There can be no joint Winner; in the event of two or more entries being awarded the same number of marks, then the Judge must select one entry as the ultimate Winner.
AWARDS
24. The Winner of the Competition will be presented with the Trophy by the Judge to take into their care until the date of the subsequent Competition.
25. The name of each Winner will be engraved along with the year on the Trophy.
AMMENDMENTS TO THE RULES
26. Any change to these Rules will be the prerogative of Moray C. Grant. |
