Image of the Year Competition Rules
DONSIDE IMAGE OF THE YEAR
THE AWARD
1. There will be an annual Award for the ‘Donside Image of the Year’, intended to recognise what is, in the considered opinion of the Club, the single most outstanding photographic image exhibited during the course of that year’s syllabus.
2. The annual Winner of the Competition and Trophy will be selected at the final meeting of Donside Camera Club for that year.
FORMAT OF ENTRIES
3. No distinction will be made between format of nominations, which will be judged as a whole.
4. Images which gained a nomination as a result of being exhibited initially as a small print (such as a 6x4 for an En-print or Assignment competition) may be reprinted to a larger size and mounted for judgement.
NOMINATION OF ENTRIES
5. The Donside Image of the Year will be chosen from amongst the photographs exhibited by club members during the course of the year’s official syllabus, whether in monthly assignments or competitions, talks, open evenings, inter-club, SPF or any other competitions or selections.
6. During the course of the year, members will notify the Competition Secretary, using the forms provided, of any photograph that they have seen that they consider potentially worthy of the Award.
7. The Competition Secretary will make a record of each nominated image and its author and will also inform the author of the image of this nomination, so that the author is made aware that the nominated image might need to be made available for the final judging process on Award night.
8. A member is allowed to make a maximum of one nomination per club meeting.
9. A member may not nominate any of his/her own images.
10. There will be no limitation on the number of nominations any particular member may receive.
11. Nominations may be made over the course of the year with the deadline for nominations being the Annual General Meeting.
12. The twenty images having received the highest number of nominations will be eligible for consideration for the award. Should there be a tie for the final position(s), then each of the tied images will be included for consideration.
13. The Competition Secretary will ready and announce the list of these qualifying images at the AGM, and be responsible for reminding authors to bring in their photographs for judgement at the Award evening.
14. On Award night one final qualifying nomination will be added by majority decision from the entries to the Malcolm Scott Quaich Competition.
SUBMISSION OF QUALIFYING NOMINATIONS FOR JUDGEMENT
15. Qualifying nominations, having been announced at the AGM, must be brought by their authors to the Award evening for final judgement.
16. Should a qualifying nomination fail to be brought for exhibition to the Award evening, it will cease to be eligible for consideration for the Award. It is therefore incumbent both upon the Competition Secretary to make authors aware of their images being nominated, and for the authors to bring along, or to otherwise make available, their images for consideration for the Award, even if they themselves are unable to attend.
EXHIBITION AND JUDGING
17. The Winner of the Award will be judged by the members of Donside Camera Club as a whole, following exhibition of the qualifying nominations to the Club at its final annual meeting of the year.
18. The Donside Image of the Year will be judged according to the process used for Monthly Assignments, with one or two hands optionally raised at the discretion of the member to indicate level of support for any particular image.
19. The author of any particular image may not vote for his/her own photograph.
20. The Winner of the Award will be the image to receive the most votes.
21. In the event of there being a tie for first place, a further vote will be conducted amongst those tied images alone. This will be repeated as necessary until a single image is declared the winner.
AWARDS
22. The Winner of the Award will be presented with the Trophy to take into his/her care until the date of the subsequent Award.
23. The name of the Winner will be engraved along with the year on the Trophy.
AMMENDMENTS TO THE RULES
24. Any proposed change to these Rules must be submitted in writing to the AGM, and will be decided on by a simple majority of votes cast. |
